  1                      A bill to be entitled

  2         An act relating to the involuntary civil

  3         commitment of sexually violent predators;

  4         amending s. 394.916, F.S.; increasing the time

  5         within which a court must conduct a trial to

  6         determine whether a person is a sexually

  7         violent predator from 30 days after the

  8         determination of probable cause to 6 months

  9         after the determination of probable cause;

10         providing an effective date.

12  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

13  

14         Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 394.916, Florida

15  Statutes, is amended to read:

16         394.916  Trial; counsel and experts; indigent persons;

17  jury.--

18         (1)  Within 6 months 30 days after the determination of

19  probable cause, the court shall conduct a trial to determine

20  whether the person is a sexually violent predator.

21         Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2007.

25    Increases from 30 days to 6 months the time within which
      a court must conduct a trial to determine whether a
26    person is a sexually violent predator following a
      determination of probable cause.
