| 5 | WHEREAS, the Peace River is one of Florida's natural |
| 6 | treasures and a river worth protecting, stretching more than 100 |
| 7 | miles from Polk County through southwest Florida and joining the |
| 8 | Gulf of Mexico at the Charlotte Harbor estuary, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, the health of the Peace River's watershed |
| 10 | determines the health of the Peace River, and |
| 11 | WHEREAS, those who live, work, and play in Polk, Hardee, |
| 12 | DeSoto, and Charlotte Counties can make a difference when it |
| 13 | comes to protecting the Peace River and its watershed, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, the Department of Environmental Protection is |
| 15 | working with the Southwest Florida Water Management District and |
| 16 | others to increase awareness of the Peace River and its |
| 17 | watershed, and |
| 18 | WHEREAS, educating residents and businesses about the steps |
| 19 | they can take is an essential part of protecting the Peace River |
| 20 | and its watershed, NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 22 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 23 | Florida: |

| 25 | That April 14-21, 2007, is recognized as "Peace River |
| 26 | Watershed Awareness Week" in Florida, and each resident and |
| 27 | business in the region is called upon to help protect the Peace |
| 28 | River and its watershed by practicing measures to conserve and |
| 29 | protect the water. |
