House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing April 14-21, 2007, as "Peace
3River Watershed Awareness Week" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the Peace River is one of Florida's natural
6treasures and a river worth protecting, stretching more than 100
7miles from Polk County through southwest Florida and joining the
8Gulf of Mexico at the Charlotte Harbor estuary, and
9     WHEREAS, the health of the Peace River's watershed
10determines the health of the Peace River, and
11     WHEREAS, those who live, work, and play in Polk, Hardee,
12DeSoto, and Charlotte Counties can make a difference when it
13comes to protecting the Peace River and its watershed, and
14     WHEREAS, the Department of Environmental Protection is
15working with the Southwest Florida Water Management District and
16others to increase awareness of the Peace River and its
17watershed, and
18     WHEREAS, educating residents and businesses about the steps
19they can take is an essential part of protecting the Peace River
20and its watershed, NOW, THEREFORE,

22Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
23Florida:

25     That April 14-21, 2007, is recognized as "Peace River
26Watershed Awareness Week" in Florida, and each resident and
27business in the region is called upon to help protect the Peace
28River and its watershed by practicing measures to conserve and
29protect the water.
