House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing May 8, 2007, as "Children's
3Mental Health Day" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the active promotion of social and emotional well-
6being is critical to the state's ability to address the complex
7mental health needs of many of the state's children, and
8     WHEREAS, effective children's mental health services are
9those that are family driven, youth guided, and culturally and
10linguistically competent, and
11     WHEREAS, at least one in five children suffer from a mental
12health disorder, and at least one in ten children suffer from a
13serious emotional disturbance, and
14     WHEREAS, with early detection and appropriate treatment,
15chances are excellent that most children with mental health
16needs can recover and lead healthy lives, and
17     WHEREAS, children's mental health continues to carry an
18unfortunate stigma that often keeps children from getting the
19help they need, and
20     WHEREAS, to break through this stigma, to better understand
21this pressing health issue, and to help our children get the
22care and support needed to succeed and attain their dreams, more
23attention needs to be brought to this issue, NOW, THEREFORE,

25Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
26Florida:

28     That the House of Representatives hereby recognizes May 8,
292007, as "Children's Mental Health Day" in Florida.
