| 2 | A resolution recognizing the Honors College at Florida |
| 3 | International University on the occasion of its 10th |

| 6 | WHEREAS, the Honors College at Florida International |
| 7 | University is a center of excellence dedicated to the education |
| 8 | of exceptional students, representing all majors at the |
| 9 | university, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, the Honors College offers a broad |
| 11 | interdisciplinary curriculum that augments the students' majors |
| 12 | of study with extracurricular programs and real-world |
| 13 | experiences that prepare the university's best and brightest to |
| 14 | become leaders in the global marketplace, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, the student body of the Honors College is |
| 16 | comprised of students from diverse backgrounds and |
| 17 | experiences--22 percent are from foreign countries, more than 50 |
| 18 | percent are Hispanic, and 64 percent are female--and cultural, |
| 19 | ethnic, and gender diversity is further enhanced though a highly |
| 20 | developed co-curricular program, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, the Honors College fosters intellectual |
| 22 | development through international study, and practical skills |
| 23 | are honed through internships, research conferences, living and |
| 24 | learning communities, and other learning opportunities that take |
| 25 | place outside the classroom, and |
| 26 | WHEREAS, the Honors College's emphasis on integrity, |
| 27 | leadership, and service supplements its commitment to academic |
| 28 | excellence, a commitment demonstrated by its students' |
| 29 | impressive average grade point average of 3.68, and the ability |
| 30 | of its students to step into a variety of challenging positions |
| 31 | immediately following graduation demonstrates their dedication |
| 32 | to that commitment, and |
| 33 | WHEREAS, the Honors College at Florida International |
| 34 | University, an institution focused on scholastic achievement |
| 35 | enhanced by a variety of viewpoints, experiences, and |
| 36 | backgrounds, continues to make South Florida one of the most |
| 37 | exciting and interesting places to live, learn, and work, NOW, |
| 38 | THEREFORE, |

| 44 | and the administration, faculty, staff, and students who are |
| 45 | tireless advocates of and exceptional participants in its |
| 46 | advancement are hereby congratulated and recognized for 10 years |
| 47 | of remarkable contributions to the furtherance of higher |
| 48 | education. |
