House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the Honors College at Florida
3International University on the occasion of its 10th
4anniversary.

6     WHEREAS, the Honors College at Florida International
7University is a center of excellence dedicated to the education
8of exceptional students, representing all majors at the
9university, and
10     WHEREAS, the Honors College offers a broad
11interdisciplinary curriculum that augments the students' majors
12of study with extracurricular programs and real-world
13experiences that prepare the university's best and brightest to
14become leaders in the global marketplace, and
15     WHEREAS, the student body of the Honors College is
16comprised of students from diverse backgrounds and
17experiences--22 percent are from foreign countries, more than 50
18percent are Hispanic, and 64 percent are female--and cultural,
19ethnic, and gender diversity is further enhanced though a highly
20developed co-curricular program, and
21     WHEREAS, the Honors College fosters intellectual
22development through international study, and practical skills
23are honed through internships, research conferences, living and
24learning communities, and other learning opportunities that take
25place outside the classroom, and
26     WHEREAS, the Honors College's emphasis on integrity,
27leadership, and service supplements its commitment to academic
28excellence, a commitment demonstrated by its students'
29impressive average grade point average of 3.68, and the ability
30of its students to step into a variety of challenging positions
31immediately following graduation demonstrates their dedication
32to that commitment, and
33     WHEREAS, the Honors College at Florida International
34University, an institution focused on scholastic achievement
35enhanced by a variety of viewpoints, experiences, and
36backgrounds, continues to make South Florida one of the most
37exciting and interesting places to live, learn, and work, NOW,
38THEREFORE,

40Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
41Florida:

43     That the Honors College at Florida International University
44and the administration, faculty, staff, and students who are
45tireless advocates of and exceptional participants in its
46advancement are hereby congratulated and recognized for 10 years
47of remarkable contributions to the furtherance of higher
48education.
