2	A resolution commending the Florida State University
3	Center for Academic Retention and Enhancement.

5	WHEREAS, the Florida State University Center for Academic
6	Retention and Enhancement (C.A.R.E.) opened in 2000 to offer
7	support to first-generation college students struggling due to
8	economic, cultural, or educational circumstances, and
9	WHEREAS, C.A.R.E. combines 64 years of experience from
10	previously existing academic support services offered by the
11	Minority Academic Program and the Horizons Unlimited Program,
12	and
13	WHEREAS, C.A.R.E. offers motivation and preparation to
14	middle school and high school students in their pursuit of
15	future academic success at the undergraduate level, and
16	WHEREAS, C.A.R.E. provides comprehensive academic and
17	personal support services through a collaborative network
18	comprised of university administration, faculty, staff,
19	students, corporate sponsors, and the community, and
20	WHEREAS, C.A.R.E.'s programs include the College Reach-Out
21	Program, a two-week program that acclimates high school students
22	to campus life; the Student Support Services Program, which
23	provides opportunities for academic development and motivates
24	students to complete their postsecondary education; the Summer
25	Bridge Program, an alternative admission program that
26	transitions incoming freshmen into college-level courses; and
27	the Student Supporting Students Mentoring Organization, a
28	mentoring program that assists incoming participants in
29	achieving their goals throughout their freshman school year, and
30
31	WHEREAS, the college experience continues to enrich the
32	lives of Florida State University students due to the
33	university's longstanding tradition of assisting incoming
34	students and encouraging diversity on its campus, as exemplified
35	by C.A.R.E., NOW, THEREFORE,

37	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38	Florida:

40	That the House of Representatives commends and recognizes
41	the Florida State University Center for Academic Retention and
42	Enhancement for its contributions as an outstanding program of
43	higher education.
