6 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators have long been |
7 | recognized for their winning tradition in all sports, and |
8 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators Football Team has |
9 | continued this tradition of athletic excellence, achieved and |
10 | maintained through their hard work, determination, unselfish |
11 | play, and team-first attitude, and |
12 | WHEREAS, the second-ranked University of Florida Football |
13 | Team earned a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State |
14 | University in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National |
15 | Championship Game on January 8, 2007, after defeating the |
16 | University of Arkansas 38-28 in the Southeastern Conference |
17 | Championship Game on December 2, 2006, and |
18 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida's 2006 schedule was |
19 | ranked as the toughest in the nation by the NCAA this season, |
20 | and |
21 | WHEREAS, under head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching |
22 | staff, the Florida Gators finished the 2006 season with a 13-1 |
23 | record to establish a single-season record for wins, and |
24 | WHEREAS, coach Urban Meyer became just the seventh head |
25 | coach in NCAA history to guide a team to a national championship |
26 | in his first or second year at a school, and |
27 | WHEREAS, with the BCS National Championship win, the |
28 | University of Florida earned its second national football |
29 | championship and became the first school in NCAA Division I |
30 | history to hold national football and men's basketball titles |
31 | simultaneously, NOW, THEREFORE, |

33 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

36 | That the Florida House of Representatives congratulates the |
37 | University of Florida Football Team for winning the 2007 Bowl |
38 | Championship Series National Championship Game, its second |
39 | national football title, and for becoming the first school in |
40 | NCAA Division I history to hold national football and basketball |
41 | titles simultaneously. |
42 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
43 | presented to the President of the University of Florida, Dr. |
44 | Bernie Machen, to Coach Urban Meyer, and to each assistant coach |
45 | and member of the Florida Gators Football Team as a tangible |
46 | token of the sentiments expressed herein. |
