House Resolution
2A resolution commending the Miami Heat Basketball Team for
3winning the first National Basketball Association
4Championship in state history.

6     WHEREAS, on June 20, 2006, the Miami Heat defeated the
7Dallas Mavericks at Dallas, 95 to 92, in a game that showcased
8the team's athletic excellence and determination, and
9     WHEREAS, in this historic win, the Miami Heat earned the
10first ever National Basketball Association Championship in the
11history of the franchise and the State of Florida, and
12     WHEREAS, after losing the first two games of the National
13Basketball Association Finals, the Miami Heat rallied to win
14four games in a row, and
15     WHEREAS, during 11 seasons with the Miami Heat, Head Coach
16Pat Riley has maintained a standard of excellence exemplified by
17his seventh National Basketball Association championship, five
18as a head coach, one as an assistant coach, and one as a player,
19and
20     WHEREAS, under Head Coach Pat Reily and his coaching staff
21the Miami Heat, including Dwyane Wade who was named Most
22Valuable Player, and Derek Anderson, Shandon Anderson, Earl
23Barron, Michael Doleac, Udonis Haslem, Jason Kapono, Alonzo
24Mourning, Shaquille O'Neal, Gary Payton, James Posey, Wayne
25Simiene, Antoine Walker, Jason Williams, and Dorell Wright, came
26together to form a championship team, and
27     WHEREAS, it is with great pride that the Miami Heat is
28recognized for the numerous accomplishments of its players,
29coaches, and owner Micky Arison, NOW, THEREFORE,

31Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
32Florida:

34     That that the House of Representatives salutes the Miami
35Heat Basketball Team for winning the 2006 National Basketball
36Association Championship, the first such championship in the
37history of the State of Florida.
