House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the New World School of the Arts
3on the occasion of its 20th anniversary.

5     WHEREAS, the New World School of the Arts was created in
61986 by the Legislature as a "Florida Center of Excellence" in
7the visual and performing arts, and
8     WHEREAS, the New World School of the Arts holds an educational
9partnership with the Miami-Dade County Public Schools, Miami Dade
10College, and the University of Florida and offers a comprehensive
11program of artistic training and academic development that prepares
12graduates for careers in dance, music, theater, musical theater,
13and the visual arts, offering high school diplomas, the Associate
14of Arts Degree, and the Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Fine Arts
15Degrees, and
16     WHEREAS, alumni of the New World School of the Arts include
17winners of the Tony Award, the Latin Grammy Award, the
18Presidential Scholars in the Arts Award, the National Foundation
19for Advancement in the Arts Competition, the Carbonell Award,
20the National Scholastic Arts Awards Portfolio, National Gold Key
21Awards, and a host of other artistic and academic honors, and
22     WHEREAS, alumni of the New World School of the Arts perform
23on Broadway and in prestigious dance companies and orchestras
24and exhibit their artistic creations in museums and galleries
25internationally, and
26     WHEREAS, the achievements of this outstanding conservatory
27have placed the New World School of the Arts in the highest
28echelons of arts institutions, setting an exemplary standard in
29education and rendering the school a shining star for all of
30South Florida, for the entire state, and for the nation, NOW,
31THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That the New World School of the Arts is recognized and
37celebrated for 20 years of artistic excellence and outstanding
38educational contributions in this state, across the nation, and
39around the world.
