House Resolution
2A resolution commending Hadassah, the Women's Zionist
3Organization of America, and its members from the Florida
4Central, Florida Atlantic, Florida Broward, and Greater
5Miami Regions on playing a vital role in improving the
6quality of life of people in Florida and the United
7States, in Israel, in the Middle East, and elsewhere in
8the world.

10     WHEREAS, Hadassah, the Women's Zionist Organization of
11America, the largest Zionist, largest Jewish, and largest
12women's membership organization in the country, was founded in
131912 by Henrietta Szold, and focuses primarily on the provision
14of health care in the United States and Israel, women's issues,
15education, and youth programs, and
16     WHEREAS, since its founding, Hadassah has been a leading
17force in supporting Israel's medical needs through Mt. Scopus
18Hospital, Ein Karem Hospital, and various clinics across the
19country, and
20     WHEREAS, Hadassah hospitals, in addition to serving as a
21model of peaceful coexistence in the Middle East, provide state-
22of-the-art health care to 600,000 patients a year, regardless of
23race, religion, or creed, and often treat the most critically
24wounded in the region's ongoing conflicts, and
25     WHEREAS, in the United States, Hadassah women sold $200
26million in United States World War II bonds as their first
27national domestic effort, and
28     WHEREAS, since then, Hadassah women have been actively
29engaged in domestic health education programs on breast cancer
30and osteoporosis; voter registration efforts; Jewish education;
31grassroots advocacy on United States-Israel relations, Jewish
32communal concerns, and women's issues; humanitarian relief to
33distressed communities and countries; and volunteer work in
34literacy programs and at domestic violence shelters, and
35     WHEREAS, nominated to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, the
36Hadassah Medical Organization is recognized for its excellence
37in promoting peace in the Middle East through its equal
38treatment for all people, including its care of more terror
39victims than any other medical center in the region, and, with
40its mixed staff of people of all faiths, for its serving as a
41model of cooperation and coexistence in its ongoing initiatives
42to create bridges for peace even throughout the intifada, and
43     WHEREAS, on this day, Thursday, April 19, 2007, Hadassah
44women have gathered at the Capitol in Tallahassee to help
45educate Florida Legislators on the value of supporting stem cell
46research for all Floridians, NOW, THEREFORE,

48Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
49Florida:

51     That the women of Hadassah from the Florida Central,
52Florida Atlantic, Florida Broward, and Greater Miami Regions are
53welcomed by their Representatives on this 19th day of April 2007
54and are commended for their vital role in efforts aimed at
55improving the quality of life of people in Florida and the
56United States, in Israel, in the Middle East, and elsewhere in
57the world.
