9 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators have long been |
10 | recognized for their winning tradition in all sports, including |
11 | 100 years of Gator football, and |
12 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators Football Team has |
13 | continued this tradition of athletic excellence, achieved and |
14 | maintained through their hard work, determination, unselfish |
15 | play, and team-first attitude, and |
16 | WHEREAS, the second-ranked University of Florida Football |
17 | Team earned a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State |
18 | University in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National |
19 | Championship Game on January 8, 2007, after defeating the |
20 | University of Arkansas 38-28 in the Southeastern Conference |
21 | Championship Game on December 2, 2006, and |
22 | WHEREAS, the University of Florida's 2006 schedule was |
23 | ranked as the toughest in the nation by the NCAA this season, |
24 | and |
25 | WHEREAS, under head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching |
26 | staff, the Florida Gators finished the 2006 season with a 13-1 |
27 | record to establish a single-season record for wins, and |
28 | WHEREAS, coach Urban Meyer became just the seventh head |
29 | coach in NCAA history to guide a team to a national championship |
30 | in his first or second year at a school, and |
31 | WHEREAS, with the BCS National Championship win, the |
32 | University of Florida earned its second national football |
33 | championship and became the first school in NCAA Division I |
34 | history to hold national football and men's basketball titles |
35 | simultaneously, NOW, THEREFORE, |

41 | University of Florida Football Team for winning the 2007 Bowl |
42 | Championship Series National Championship Game, its second |
43 | national football title, and the University of Florida for |
44 | becoming the first school in NCAA Division I history to hold |
45 | national football and men's basketball titles simultaneously. |
46 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
47 | presented to the President of the University of Florida, Dr. J. |
48 | Bernard Machen, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed |
49 | herein. |
