House Resolution
2A resolution commending the University of Florida Football
3Team for winning the 2007 Bowl Championship Series
4National Championship Game and the University of Florida
5for becoming the first school in NCAA Division I history
6to hold national football and men's basketball titles
7simultaneously.

9     WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators have long been
10recognized for their winning tradition in all sports, including
11100 years of Gator football, and
12     WHEREAS, the University of Florida Gators Football Team has
13continued this tradition of athletic excellence, achieved and
14maintained through their hard work, determination, unselfish
15play, and team-first attitude, and
16     WHEREAS, the second-ranked University of Florida Football
17Team earned a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State
18University in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) National
19Championship Game on January 8, 2007, after defeating the
20University of Arkansas 38-28 in the Southeastern Conference
21Championship Game on December 2, 2006, and
22     WHEREAS, the University of Florida's 2006 schedule was
23ranked as the toughest in the nation by the NCAA this season,
24and
25     WHEREAS, under head coach Urban Meyer and his coaching
26staff, the Florida Gators finished the 2006 season with a 13-1
27record to establish a single-season record for wins, and
28     WHEREAS, coach Urban Meyer became just the seventh head
29coach in NCAA history to guide a team to a national championship
30in his first or second year at a school, and
31     WHEREAS, with the BCS National Championship win, the
32University of Florida earned its second national football
33championship and became the first school in NCAA Division I
34history to hold national football and men's basketball titles
35simultaneously, NOW, THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That the Florida House of Representatives congratulates the
41University of Florida Football Team for winning the 2007 Bowl
42Championship Series National Championship Game, its second
43national football title, and the University of Florida for
44becoming the first school in NCAA Division I history to hold
45national football and men's basketball titles simultaneously.
46     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
47presented to the President of the University of Florida, Dr. J.
48Bernard Machen, as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed
49herein.
