House Resolution
2A resolution extending condolences to the family of the
3late Manuel Toro.

5     WHEREAS, Manuel Toro left Puerto Rico, and, upon his
6arrival in the Unites States, lost no time in his pursuit of the
7"American Dream," and
8     WHEREAS, Manuel Toro, already a practicing psychiatrist and
9a successful businessman, recognized central Florida's need for
10a Spanish-language newspaper, creating La Prensa, the first and
11oldest Spanish newspaper in Central Florida, and
12     WHEREAS, Manuel Toro printed the first edition of La Prensa
13in 1981, and, with only 16 pages and a simple typesetting
14machine, La Prensa has grown to a circulation of 40,000 papers
15weekly and recently celebrated 25 years of service to the
16community, and
17     WHEREAS, with the growth of La Prensa, Manuel Toro reached
18his goal of a Spanish-language newspaper that developed a
19stronger sense of community for Hispanics in Central Florida,
20and
21     WHEREAS, at his death on January 5, 2007, Manuel Toro left
22behind his wife, Dora, and five children, Frances Elizabeth,
23Manuel Antonio Jr., Manuel Fernando, Jose Luis, and Javier
24Antonio, to each of whom he bequeathed a legacy of great value,
25NOW, THEREFORE,

27Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
28Florida:

30     That the House of Representatives extends its sincere
31condolences to the family of Manuel Toro with the hope that its
32members will gain much comfort in the knowledge that the world
33is a better place because of the life of their dear husband and
34father.
35     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
36presented to Mrs. Dora Toro as a tangible token of the
37sentiments expressed herein.
