House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the Florida Department of
3Corrections' Gulf Correctional Institution's Corrections
4Emergency Response Team and Century Correctional
5Institution's Canine Team.

7     WHEREAS, the Florida Department of Corrections' Gulf
8Correctional Institution's Corrections Emergency Response Team
9and Century Correctional Institution's Canine Team won recent
10national and regional acclaim, and
11     WHEREAS, the National Corrections and Law Enforcement
12Training and Technology Center Skills Competition was held in
13Moundsville, West Virginia, May 10-11, 2007, and
14     WHEREAS, first place overall in the skills competition was
15awarded to the Gulf Correctional Institution's Corrections
16Emergency Response Team, consisting of team members Lieutenant
17Michael Mashburn, Sergeant Trampus Gray, Sergeant David Swain,
18Sergeant Kevin Romer, Officer Kenneth Stephens, Officer Jeremy
19Cross, Officer Michael Pabis, and Officer Joseph Mastro; and
20Lieutenant Michael Mashburn placed fourth with individual honors
21in the Super S.W.A.T. competition, and
22     WHEREAS, the Gulf Correctional Institution's Corrections
23Emergency Response Team was the least penalized team in all
24events, employing the motto, "We will not lower our standards to
25raise yours," and
26     WHEREAS, canine teams from five states competed for top
27honors during the 2007 Southern States Manhunt Field Trials that
28were hosted by the Arkansas Department of Corrections and took
29place March 12-16, 2007, at Camp Robinson National Guard Post in
30North Little Rock, Arkansas, and
31     WHEREAS, there were 31 canine teams from Florida, Arkansas,
32Louisiana, Mississippi, and Missouri that competed for top
33honors, and
34     WHEREAS, Sergeant Burley Townson and Correctional Officer
35Jamie Sanders from the Century Correctional Institution, along
36with their beagles, won first place in the Multiple Leash
37Competition, and
38     WHEREAS, these emergency response and canine teams from
39Florida demonstrated award-winning skills and commitment to
40their respective missions of seeking positive resolution of
41crises and participating in apprehending escapees and protecting
42the public by assisting law enforcement agencies with felon
43apprehensions, missing children searches, and the finding and
44aiding of people in distress, NOW, THEREFORE,

46Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
47Florida:

49     That the Florida House of Representatives salutes the
50Florida Department of Corrections' Gulf Correctional
51Institution's Corrections Emergency Response Team and Century
52Correctional Institution's Canine Team for their award-winning
53performances.
