5 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis was born on February 10, 1947, in |
6 | Columbus, Ohio, and |
7 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis attended Ohio State University and in |
8 | 1974 moved to Naples, Florida, where he became a successful |
9 | businessman and community leader, and |
10 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis served in various capacities in |
11 | numerous civic and governmental organizations such as the |
12 | Collier County Planning Commission, Collier County Health |
13 | Facilities Funding Authority, Naples Area Chamber of Commerce, |
14 | Naples Bay Rotary Club and Rotary International (for 20 years), |
15 | Hospice of Naples, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and |
16 | Quest for Kids, and |
17 | WHEREAS, after his retirement as a businessman, Mike Davis |
18 | was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in November |
19 | 2002 to represent District 101, encompassing eastern Collier |
20 | County and part of western Broward County, and was subsequently |
21 | reelected in 2004 and 2006, and |
22 | WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Florida House of |
23 | Representatives, Mike Davis served as Majority Whip and served |
24 | on various councils, committees, and subcommittees dealing with |
25 | issues relating to natural resources of the state, local |
26 | government operations, veterans' affairs, state government |
27 | structure and operations, the future of Florida's families, |
28 | growth management, affordable housing, transportation, and |
29 | economic development and expansion, and |
30 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis was known by all as both a champion and |
31 | a defender of affordable housing programs and funding as well as |
32 | a strong advocate for improving transportation and expanding |
33 | economic development, and |
34 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis has been an outstanding example of a |
35 | public servant, citizen, and friend, a loving and dedicated |
36 | husband to Patricia, his wife of 35 years, a nurturing father to |
37 | his son, Christian, and his daughter, Natasha, and a loving and |
38 | nurturing grandfather to his granddaughter, Mia, and |
39 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis was a committed follower of Jesus |
40 | Christ and an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic |
41 | Church in Naples, and |
42 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis went peacefully to his LORD on |
43 | September 12, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer, |
44 | cutting too short a life that so positively touched those he |
45 | loved and those he served, and |
46 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis was a true gentleman and statesman |
47 | whose word was his bond and who consistently placed the greater |
48 | good ahead of any partisan or political goals, and |
49 | WHEREAS, Mike Davis will be sorely missed by his family, |
50 | his friends, and his constituents, and his passing is deeply |
51 | mourned by the members and employees of the House of |
52 | Representatives, along with all those who knew and loved him, |
53 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

55 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
56 | Florida: |

58 | That the House of Representatives of the State of Florida |
59 | hereby honors Representative Mike Davis and pays tribute to his |
60 | legacy as an exemplary person, family man, citizen, and public |
61 | servant, and celebrates his life and accomplishments in Session |
62 | by a Memorial Service in his honor on this 4th day of October |
63 | 2007; that this House encourages all Floridians, especially |
64 | young Floridians seeking an example in life, to consider Mike |
65 | Davis's extraordinary life of compassion for those in need, of |
66 | dedication to serving his community and his state, of his love |
67 | of family and friends, and of life lived to the fullest; and |
68 | that this House commits his soul to his LORD and his family to |
69 | the care of God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, "Who is able |
70 | to keep us from falling and to present us before His glorious |
71 | Presence without fault and with great joy." |
72 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
73 | presented to the family of Mike Davis as a tangible token of the |
74 | sentiments expressed herein. |
