House Resolution
2A resolution honoring the life of State Representative
3Mike Davis.

5     WHEREAS, Mike Davis was born on February 10, 1947, in
6Columbus, Ohio, and
7     WHEREAS, Mike Davis attended Ohio State University and in
81974 moved to Naples, Florida, where he became a successful
9businessman and community leader, and
10     WHEREAS, Mike Davis served in various capacities in
11numerous civic and governmental organizations such as the
12Collier County Planning Commission, Collier County Health
13Facilities Funding Authority, Naples Area Chamber of Commerce,
14Naples Bay Rotary Club and Rotary International (for 20 years),
15Hospice of Naples, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of America, and
16Quest for Kids, and
17     WHEREAS, after his retirement as a businessman, Mike Davis
18was elected to the Florida House of Representatives in November
192002 to represent District 101, encompassing eastern Collier
20County and part of western Broward County, and was subsequently
21reelected in 2004 and 2006, and
22     WHEREAS, during his tenure in the Florida House of
23Representatives, Mike Davis served as Majority Whip and served
24on various councils, committees, and subcommittees dealing with
25issues relating to natural resources of the state, local
26government operations, veterans' affairs, state government
27structure and operations, the future of Florida's families,
28growth management, affordable housing, transportation, and
29economic development and expansion, and
30     WHEREAS, Mike Davis was known by all as both a champion and
31a defender of affordable housing programs and funding as well as
32a strong advocate for improving transportation and expanding
33economic development, and
34     WHEREAS, Mike Davis has been an outstanding example of a
35public servant, citizen, and friend, a loving and dedicated
36husband to Patricia, his wife of 35 years, a nurturing father to
37his son, Christian, and his daughter, Natasha, and a loving and
38nurturing grandfather to his granddaughter, Mia, and
39     WHEREAS, Mike Davis was a committed follower of Jesus
40Christ and an active member of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic
41Church in Naples, and
42     WHEREAS, Mike Davis went peacefully to his LORD on
43September 12, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer,
44cutting too short a life that so positively touched those he
45loved and those he served, and
46     WHEREAS, Mike Davis was a true gentleman and statesman
47whose word was his bond and who consistently placed the greater
48good ahead of any partisan or political goals, and
49     WHEREAS, Mike Davis will be sorely missed by his family,
50his friends, and his constituents, and his passing is deeply
51mourned by the members and employees of the House of
52Representatives, along with all those who knew and loved him,
53NOW, THEREFORE,

55Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
56Florida:

58     That the House of Representatives of the State of Florida
59hereby honors Representative Mike Davis and pays tribute to his
60legacy as an exemplary person, family man, citizen, and public
61servant, and celebrates his life and accomplishments in Session
62by a Memorial Service in his honor on this 4th day of October
632007; that this House encourages all Floridians, especially
64young Floridians seeking an example in life, to consider Mike
65Davis's extraordinary life of compassion for those in need, of
66dedication to serving his community and his state, of his love
67of family and friends, and of life lived to the fullest; and
68that this House commits his soul to his LORD and his family to
69the care of God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth, "Who is able
70to keep us from falling and to present us before His glorious
71Presence without fault and with great joy."
72     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
73presented to the family of Mike Davis as a tangible token of the
74sentiments expressed herein.
