| 2 | An act relating to a special election; providing for a |
| 3 | special election to be held January 29, 2008, pursuant to |
| 4 | Section 5 of Article XI of the State Constitution, for the |
| 5 | approval or rejection by the electors of this state of |
| 6 | amendments to the State Constitution, proposed by joint |
| 7 | resolution, relating to a tangible personal property tax |
| 8 | exemption, homestead property assessments, assessment of |
| 9 | rent-restricted affordable housing and commercial and |
| 10 | public-access waterfront property, increased homestead |
| 11 | exemption and additional homestead exemption for first- |
| 12 | time homestead property owners and low-income seniors, |
| 13 | limitations on local government authority to increase ad |
| 14 | valorem taxes, and elected county property appraisers; |
| 15 | providing for publication of notice and for procedures; |
| 16 | providing an appropriation; providing a contingent |
| 17 | effective date. |

| 19 | Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: |
| 20 |

| 21 | Section 1. Pursuant to Section 5 of Article XI of the |
| 22 | State Constitution, there shall be a special election on January |
| 23 | 29, 2008, to be held concurrently with other statewide elections |
| 24 | held on that date, if any, at which there shall be submitted to |
| 25 | the electors of this state for approval or rejection the |
| 26 | amendments to the State Constitution proposed in Senate Joint |
| 27 | Resolution 2-D or House Joint Resolution 7001D, 2007D Special |
| 28 | Session. |
| 29 | Section 2. Publication of notice shall be in accordance |
| 30 | with Section 5 of Article XI of the State Constitution. The |
| 31 | special election shall be held as other special elections are |
| 32 | held. |
| 33 | Section 3. The sum of $60,000 in nonrecurring funds from |
| 34 | the General Revenue Fund is appropriated to the Department of |
| 35 | State for fiscal year 2007-2008 for the purpose of advertising |
| 36 | the constitutional amendments being submitted to the electors of |
| 37 | this state at the special election called by this act. |
| 38 | Section 4. This act shall take effect upon becoming a law |
| 39 | if enacted by a vote of at least three-fourths of the membership |
| 40 | of each house of the Legislature and if Senate Joint Resolution |
| 41 | 2-D or House Joint Resolution 7001D, 2007D Special Session, is |
| 42 | adopted by both houses of the Legislature. |
