An act relating to license plates; amending ss. 320.08056

and 320.08058, F.S.; creating an Out-of-State Collegiate

license plate; providing for the distribution of annual

5

use fees received from the sale of such plates; providing

6

an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Paragraph (mmm) is added to subsection (4) of

11

section 320.08056, Florida Statutes, to read:

12

     320.08056  Specialty license plates.--

13

     (4)  The following license plate annual use fees shall be

14

collected for the appropriate specialty license plates:

15

     (mmm) Out-of-State Collegiate license plate, $50.

16

     Section 2.  Subsection (65) is added to section 320.08058,

17

Florida Statutes, to read:

18

     320.08058  Specialty license plates.--

     (65) OUT-OF-STATE COLLEGIATE LICENSE PLATES.--

     (a) Notwithstanding the provisions of s. 320.08053, the

21

department shall develop out-of-state collegiate license plates

22

as provided in this section for state and independent

23

universities located outside this state. The license plates must

24

bear the colors and design approved by the department as

25

appropriate for each university. The word "Florida" must appear

26

at the top of the plate and the logo of the university must

27

appear on the left side of the plate.

     (b) The annual use fees shall be distributed to the

29

Department of Education and deposited in the State Student

30

Financial Assistance Trust Fund, created by s. 1010.73. Such fees

31

in the trust fund shall be allocated to scholarships for students

32

who are residents of this state and have committed to teach in

33

public schools in this state, with priority given to students who

34

commit to teach in a subject area or in a geographical area in

35

which a critical shortage of teachers exists.

     Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
