An act relating to early voting; amending s. 101.657,

F.S.; authorizing the supervisor of elections to designate

any public community college facility as an early voting

site; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Paragraph (a) of subsection (1) of section

10

101.657, Florida Statutes, is amended to read:

11

     101.657  Early voting.--

12

     (1)(a)  As a convenience to the voter, the supervisor of

13

elections shall allow an elector to vote early in the main or

14

branch office of the supervisor. The supervisor shall mark, code,

15

indicate on, or otherwise track the voter's precinct for each

16

early voted ballot. In order for a branch office to be used for

17

early voting, it shall be a permanent facility of the supervisor

18

and shall have been designated and used as such for at least 1

19

year prior to the election. The supervisor may also designate any

20

city hall, public community college facility, or permanent public

21

library facility as early voting sites; however, if so

22

designated, the sites must be geographically located so as to

23

provide all voters in the county an equal opportunity to cast a

24

ballot, insofar as is practicable. The results or tabulation of

25

votes cast during early voting may not be made before the close

26

of the polls on election day. Results shall be reported by

27

precinct.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
