to the state. When the Department of Health issues a health

advisory against swimming in beach waters on the basis of finding
11
elevated levels of fecal coliform or enterococci bacteria in a
12
water sample, the department shall contemporaneously notify the
13
relevant local government and the local office of the Department
14
of Environmental Protection, which shall promptly investigate
15
wastewater treatment facilities within 1 mile of the affected
16
beach to determine if a facility experienced an incident that may
17
have contributed to the contamination. Upon completion, the
18
Department of Environmental Protection shall notify the relevant
19
local government in writing or by electronic correspondence of
20
the results of its investigation.
