A resolution recognizing April 10, 2008, as "Hillsborough

County Day" in Tallahassee.

WHEREAS, Hillsborough County was organized as a county in
6
1834 and extends across some 1,050 square miles with a current
7
population exceeding 1 million people, and
8
WHEREAS, Hillsborough is home to three municipalities -
9
Plant City, chartered in 1885; Tampa, chartered in 1887; and
10
Temple Terrace, chartered in 1925, and
11
WHEREAS, Hillsborough County today is a multicultural,
12
diverse community, a microcosm of the state of Florida, offering
13
a breadth of lifestyles including a strong urban core, two
14
smaller municipalities having a Main Street ambience, a
15
flourishing suburbia, community living for the active elderly,
16
and sufficient rural areas for those who choose more pastoral or
17
agrarian lifestyles, and
18
WHEREAS, Hillsborough is the western anchor of the Florida
19
High Tech Corridor consisting of 23 counties, the largest of the
20
seven member counties of the Bay Area Legislative Delegation, and
21
the epicenter of business and commerce for the region with top-
22
notch and ever-improving and expanding transportation systems to
23
serve people and move goods via the Tampa International Airport,
24
the Port of Tampa, and the interconnecting Interstate Systems,
25
and
26
WHEREAS, Hillsborough offers an almost unlimited menu of
27
opportunities ranging from state-of-the-art health care and
28
seamless K-12 through state university education to cultural
29
events and historic districts, beaches, parks, and prestigious
30
sporting events, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

That the Florida Senate recognizes April 10, 2008, as
35
"Hillsborough County Day" and joins the rest of the legislative
36
community in celebrating the Fifth Anniversary of "Flavors of
37
Hillsborough" at the State Capitol.
