5 | Section 48. Subsection (1) of section 316.605, Florida |
6 | Statutes, is amended to read: |
7 | 316.605 Licensing of vehicles.-- |
8 | (1) Every vehicle, at all times while driven, stopped, or |
9 | parked upon any highways, roads, or streets of this state, shall |
10 | be licensed in the name of the owner thereof in accordance with |
11 | the laws of this state unless such vehicle is not required by |
12 | the laws of this state to be licensed in this state and shall, |
13 | except as otherwise provided in s. 320.0706 for front-end |
14 | registration license plates on truck tractors, s. 320.0821 for |
15 | registration license plates on wreckers, and s. 320.086(5) which |
16 | exempts display of license plates on described former military |
17 | vehicles, display the license plate or both of the license |
18 | plates assigned to it by the state, one on the rear and, if two, |
19 | the other on the front of the vehicle, each to be securely |
20 | fastened to the vehicle outside the main body of the vehicle not |
21 | higher than 60 inches and not lower than 12 inches from the |
22 | ground and no more than 24 inches to the left or right of the |
23 | centerline of the vehicle, and in such manner as to prevent the |
24 | plates from swinging, and all letters, numerals, printing, |
25 | writing, and other identification marks upon the plates |
26 | regarding the word "Florida," the registration decal, and the |
27 | alphanumeric designation shall be clear and distinct and free |
28 | from defacement, mutilation, grease, and other obscuring matter, |
29 | so that they will be plainly visible and legible at all times |
30 | 100 feet from the rear or front. Vehicle license plates shall be |
31 | affixed and displayed in such a manner that the letters and |
32 | numerals shall be read from left to right parallel to the |
33 | ground. No vehicle license plate may be displayed in an inverted |
34 | or reversed position or in such a manner that the letters and |
35 | numbers and their proper sequence are not readily identifiable. |
36 | Nothing shall be placed upon the face of a Florida plate except |
37 | as permitted by law or by rule or regulation of a governmental |
38 | agency. No license plates other than those furnished by the |
39 | state shall be used. However, if the vehicle is not required to |
40 | be licensed in this state, the license plates on such vehicle |
41 | issued by another state, by a territory, possession, or district |
42 | of the United States, or by a foreign country, substantially |
43 | complying with the provisions hereof, shall be considered as |
44 | complying with this chapter. A violation of this subsection is a |
45 | noncriminal traffic infraction, punishable as a nonmoving |
46 | violation as provided in chapter 318. |
47 | Section 49. Subsection (5) is added to section 320.0821, |
48 | Florida Statutes, is amended to read: |
49 | 320.0821 Wrecker license plates.-- |
50 | (5) The owner of any wrecker issued a regular wrecker |
51 | license plate shall display the license plate only on the front |
52 | of the vehicle. Any wrecker issued gross vehicle weight wrecker |
53 | license plates shall display the license plates on both the |
54 | front and rear of the truck in conformance with all the |
55 | requirements of s. 316.605 that do not conflict with this |
56 | section. |
