An act relating to the hunter safety course; amending s.

3

372.5717, F.S.; providing that a person born on or after a

4

specified date who is an active-duty member of the United

5

States Armed Forces or a current member of the United

6

States Armed Forces Reserves, the United States National

7

Guard, the United States Coast Guard, or the United States

8

Coast Guard Reserve may satisfy the requirement for

9

completing the hunter safety course by completing an

10

online electronic course or by completing a hunter safety

11

workbook and written exam provided by the Fish and

12

Wildlife Conservation Commission; providing an effective

13

date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

16

     Section 1.  Subsection (2) of section 372.5717, Florida

18

Statutes, is amended to read:

19

     372.5717  Hunter safety course; requirements; penalty.--

20

     (2)(a)  Except as provided in paragraph (b), a person born

21

on or after June 1, 1975, may not be issued a license to take

22

wild animal life with the use of a firearm, gun, bow, or crossbow

23

in this state without having first successfully completed a

24

hunter safety course as provided in this section, and without

25

having in his or her personal possession a hunter safety

26

certification card, as provided in this section.

     (b)  A person born on or after June 1, 1975, who has not

28

successfully completed a hunter safety course may apply to the

29

commission for a special authorization to hunt under supervision.

30

The special authorization for supervised hunting shall be

31

designated on any license or permit required under this chapter

32

for a person to take game or fur-bearing animals and shall be

33

valid for not more than 1 year. A special authorization for

34

supervised hunting may not be issued more than once to the person

35

applying for such authorization. A person issued a license with a

36

special authorization to hunt under supervision must hunt under

37

the supervision of, and in the presence of, a person 21 years of

38

or age or older who is licensed to hunt pursuant to s. 372.57 or

39

who is exempt from licensing requirements or eligible for a free

40

license pursuant to s. 372.562.

     (c) Any resident born on or after June 1, 1975, who is an

42

active-duty member of the United States Armed Forces or a current

43

member of the United States Armed Forces Reserves, the National

44

Guard, the United States Coast Guard, or the United States Coast

45

Guard Reserve, upon submission of a current military

46

identification card, may satisfy the requirements of this

47

subsection by successfully completing an online electronic hunter

48

safety course that has been approved by the Fish and Wildlife

49

Conservation Commission or by completing a workbook and written

50

test provided by the commission.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
