An act relating to a personal financial responsibility

pilot program; establishing a 3-year pilot program in the

4

state for certain purposes; providing a program goal;

5

requiring the Commissioner of Education to develop a

6

program curriculum and select certain school districts for

7

participation; requiring a report to the Governor and

8

Legislature; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1. A 3-year pilot program is established to provide

13

high school students in two school districts in each of the

14

northern, middle, and southern regions of the state with personal

15

financial responsibility instruction. The goal of the pilot

16

program will be to ensure that high school students in pilot

17

program districts receive instruction on budgeting, saving and

18

investing, credit card debt, and other issues associated with

19

personal financial responsibility. The Commissioner of Education

20

shall develop a curriculum for the program and select the school

21

districts for participation in the program. At the conclusion of

22

the pilot program, the Commissioner of Education shall report to

23

the Governor, the President of the Senate, and the Speaker of the

24

House of Representatives on the feasibility of implementing the

25

program on a statewide basis.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
