An act relating to motor vehicle liability insurance;

amending s. 324.021, F.S.; redefining the term "proof of

4

financial responsibility" for purposes of provisions

5

requiring persons operating a motor vehicle to obtain

6

liability insurance; increasing the amounts required with

7

respect to bodily injury or death in a single accident;

8

providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

11

12

     Section 1.  Subsection (7) of section 324.021, Florida

13

Statutes, is amended to read:

14

     324.021  Definitions; minimum insurance required.--The

15

following words and phrases when used in this chapter shall, for

16

the purpose of this chapter, have the meanings respectively

17

ascribed to them in this section, except in those instances where

18

the context clearly indicates a different meaning:

19

     (7)  PROOF OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY.--That proof of

20

ability to respond in damages for liability on account of crashes

21

arising out of the use of a motor vehicle:

22

     (a) In the amount of $15,000; effective October 1, 2010, in

23

the amount of $20,000; and effective October 1, 2012, in the

24

amount of $25,000 $10,000 because of bodily injury to, or death

25

of, one person in any one crash;

26

     (b)  Subject to such limits for one person, in the amount of

27

$30,000; effective October 1, 2010, in the amount of $40,000; and

28

effective October 1, 2012, in the amount of $50,000 $20,000

29

because of bodily injury to, or death of, two or more persons in

30

any one crash;

     (c) In the amount of $15,000; effective October 1, 2010, in

32

the amount of $20,000; and effective October 1, 2012, in the

33

amount of $25,000 $10,000 because of injury to, or destruction

34

of, property of others in any one crash; and

35

     (d)  With respect to commercial motor vehicles and nonpublic

36

sector buses, in the amounts specified in ss. 627.7415 and

37

627.742, respectively; and.

38

     (e) With respect to persons described in s. 324.023, in the

39

amounts specified in s. 324.023.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect October 1, 2008.
