An act relating to jai alai; amending s. 550.054, F.S.;

authorizing a jai alai permitholder to apply to the

4

Division of Pari-Mutuel Wagering within the Department of

5

Business and Professional Regulation to convert its jai

6

alai permit to a permit to conduct greyhound racing under

7

certain conditions; requiring the division to convert the

8

jai alai permit to a permit to conduct greyhound racing

9

under certain conditions; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Subsection (14) is added to section 550.054,

14

Florida Statutes, to read:

15

     550.054  Application for permit to conduct pari-mutuel

16

wagering.--

     (14) Any holder of a jai alai permit that was not

18

previously converted from any other class of permit may apply to

19

the division to convert such permit to a permit to conduct

20

greyhound racing, in lieu of jai alai, if the permitholder has

21

not conducted jai alai games during a period of 10 years

22

immediately preceding its application under this section. The

23

division, upon application from the holder of a jai alai permit

24

meeting all conditions of this section, shall convert the permit

25

and shall issue to the permitholder a permit and license to

26

conduct greyhound racing.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
