An act relating to the Department of Juvenile Justice;

amending s. 984.01, F.S.; providing requirements for

4

directing the funding and delivery of services of

5

specified programs for children and families in need of

6

services; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Paragraph (d) is added to subsection (2) of

11

section 984.01, Florida Statutes, to read:

12

     984.01  Purposes and intent; personnel standards and

13

screening.--

     (2)  The Department of Juvenile Justice or the Department of

15

Children and Family Services, as appropriate, may contract with

16

the Federal Government, other state departments and agencies,

17

county and municipal governments and agencies, public and private

18

agencies, and private individuals and corporations in carrying

19

out the purposes of, and the responsibilities established in,

20

this chapter.

     (d) The Department of Juvenile Justice shall ensure that an

22

equitable percentage of all funding for programs for

23

nonresidential children and families in need of services be used

24

to fund prevention resource programs in areas that have a high

25

volume of juvenile arrests. Additionally, the recipient of such

26

funds shall demonstrate the inclusion of local nontraditional

27

delinquency prevention service providers, such as grassroots

28

organizations and community and faith-based organizations, in the

29

contracting and delivery of all programs in such areas.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
