An act relating to medical student education funding;

requiring state funding of medical student education at

state university colleges of medicine using a formula that

5

provides equal state support on a full-time equivalent

6

student basis; requiring the funding formula to be based

7

on actual costs; requiring maintenance of college

8

accreditation; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1. Medical student education funding.--

     (1) To provide appropriate and equitable funding for

14

medical student education, the state shall fund medical student

15

education using a formula that provides equal state support on a

16

per full-time equivalent student basis at all colleges of

17

medicine at state universities. The formula shall be based on the

18

actual costs of education per student, including direct,

19

indirect, and total costs.

     (2) In order for a college of medicine at a state

21

university to receive funding pursuant to this section, the

22

college of medicine must maintain its accreditation.

23

     (3) A college of medicine at a state university may seek

24

nonstate funds to augment funds received under the provisions of

25

this section.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
