     Senate Amendment (with title amendment)

     Between line(s) 86 and 87

Section 3. Nursing Education Faculty Enhancement Program --.

8

     (1) LEGISLATIVE FINDINGS AND DECLARATIONS. - The Legislature

9

finds that developing and retaining nursing education faculty is

10

a critical component to expanding the capacity of Florida's

11

nursing programs, thereby increasing the supply of qualified

12

nurses to Florida's healthcare system. The Legislature further

13

finds that the demand for qualified nurses in Florida continues

14

to increase with the aging of the "baby boom" population and its

15

resulting need for healthcare services. Thus, healthcare remains

16

a growth sector in Florida's economy that, with appropriate state

17

and private resources, will result in a sustained increase in

18

jobs and spending, thereby, contributing to the stabilization and

19

expansion of Florida's economy.

20

     (2) The Nursing Education Faculty Enhancement Program is

21

created to provide funding for monetary incentive and recognition

22

awards for promoting the recruitment and retention of nursing

23

education faculty in Florida's nursing programs. The Agency for

24

Work Force Innovation shall provide a monetary award annually to

25

each eligible nursing education faculty member employed in a

26

nursing program that educates Bachelor of Science in Nursing or

27

higher degree students. To be eligible for an award, the faculty

28

member must be certified by the nursing program to have been

29

employed full time the prior academic year and to be in good

30

standing and recommended for continued employment in the current

31

academic year. The amount of the award shall be determined

32

annually based on available funds, but shall not exceed $5000 for

33

the master's degree prepared faculty members and $10,000 for

34

doctoral prepared faculty members. Funds available for

35

distribution pursuant to the program are contingent upon a one-

36

to-one match of private contributions.
