Senate Resolution
2
A resolution recognizing October 15 of this year, and all
3
years, as "Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day" in
4
the State of Florida.
5
6
WHEREAS, an overwhelming number of families suffer the
7
heartbreak of miscarriage, stillbirth, or infant loss each year,
8
and
9
WHEREAS, approximately 1 million pregnancies in the United
10
States end in miscarriage, stillbirth, or the death of a newborn
11
baby, and
12
WHEREAS, it is a great tragedy to lose the life of a child,
13
and
14
WHEREAS, even the shortest lives are still valuable, and the
15
grief of those who mourn the loss of these lives should not be
16
trivialized, and
17
WHEREAS, for those persons who have suffered the loss of a
18
pregnancy or infant, a day of remembrance and reflection is more
19
than just a day to remember, it is a day that validates their
20
loss, and
21
WHEREAS, because of the nature of miscarriages and
22
stillbirths and the lack of understanding of pregnancy loss and
23
infant death, families that suffer these tragedies must often
24
bear their pain and sorrow in private without an opportunity to
25
grieve openly, and
26
WHEREAS, support from family, friends, and the community is
27
vital to individuals and families who are coping with the loss of
28
a pregnancy or child, and
29
WHEREAS, Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day enables
30
the people of this state to consider how they can meet the needs
31
of bereaved mothers, fathers, and family members and work to
32
prevent the causes of these deaths, and
33
WHEREAS, these families need to know that they are not alone
34
and that their tragic loss is not a forgotten loss, NOW,
35
THEREFORE,
36
37
Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:
38
39
That the Florida Senate recognizes October 15 of this year,
40
and all years, as "Pregnancy and Infant Loss Remembrance Day" in
41
the State of Florida.
