A resolution recognizing the Barron Collier High School

Cougars' Varsity Girls Basketball Team as winners of the

4

2008 Florida State High School Athletic Association Class 5A

5

State Championship.

     WHEREAS, the Barron Collier High School Cougars' Varsity

8

Girls Basketball Team, under the leadership of Head Coach Mike

9

Hamburger with the assistance of coaches George Gabourel, Ethan

10

Bulger, and Malinka Philson, earned the 2008 Florida State High

11

School Athletic Association Class 5A State Championship, and

12

     WHEREAS, outstanding skill, sportsmanship and

13

competitiveness have been characteristic of Cougars' teammates

14

Jennifer Alexander, Katie Arnold, Kelsey Assarian, Kristen Byers,

15

Rachel Carroll, Amber Emerson, Michaela Hawley, Carly Jacob, Dani

16

Johnson, Kacyee Johnson, Christine Mansour, Karissa Naretta,

17

Saphira Philson, Brittany Reid, Carleigh Watts, and Erin Zampell,

18

and

19

     WHEREAS, Kelsey Assarian received the FHSAA Final Four Most

20

Valuable Player Award, was selected for the All State Team, All

21

Collier County Team, and All News Press Team, and was named the

22

Collier County Athletic Conference 2007-2008 Player of the Year,

23

and

24

     WHEREAS, Erin Zampell was named to the FHSAA Final Four All-

25

Tournament Team and the All Collier County Team, and

26

     WHEREAS, Michaela Hawley and Christine Mansour were named to

27

the All Collier County Team, and

28

     WHEREAS, Dani Johnson was named to the All Collier County

29

Team and received the  Naples Daily News Player of the Week

30

Award, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

     That the Florida Senate commends the Barron Collier High

35

School Cougars' Varsity Girls Basketball Team for the honor and

36

pride they have brought to this state by their outstanding

37

dedication and performance as athletes.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with

39

the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to the Barron

40

Collier High School Varsity Girls Basketball Team as a tangible

41

token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
