A resolution recognizing Al Dotson, Jr., for his many
3
years of leadership and dedicated service to the South
4
Florida community.

WHEREAS, on June 9, 1960, Mr. Albert Dotson, Jr., was born
7
to Dr. Albert Dotson, Sr., and his wife, Dr. Earlene Dotson, in
8
Detroit, Michigan, and
9
WHEREAS, Mr. Dotson graduated from Dartmouth College with a
10
degree in Economics and History and was then accepted into
11
Vanderbilt University's School of Law where he earned his Juris
12
Doctor degree and was awarded the Bennett Douglas Bell Memorial
13
Prize for academic achievement and high ethical standards, and
14
WHEREAS, Mr. Dotson is Chairman of the Board of 100 Black
15
Men of America, Chairman of the Miami Dade College Foundation
16
Board of Trustees, was President of the Orange Bowl Committee for
17
the 2006-2007 Orange Bowl Festival and the FedEx Orange Bowl
18
Game, and participates actively in a wide array of vital
19
organizations and groups including the FTAA Ministerial Board of
20
Trustees, the Super Bowl XLI Host Committee, Big Brothers Big
21
Sisters of Greater Miami, the Simon Wiesenthal Center, United Way
22
of Miami-Dade County, the Overtown Youth Center, the Dade County
23
Bar Association Blue Ribbon Commission on Judicial Campaigns, the
24
Miami Business Forum, the Jackson Memorial Hospital Public Health
25
Trust, the National Conference of Community and Justice, and the
26
Alliance For Ethical Government, and
27
WHEREAS, he was named one of Ebony Magazine's "100 Most
28
Influential Black Americans"; as one of the "Most Effective
29
Lawyers" in Real Estate/Construction Law by the Daily Business
30
Review; as one of South Florida's Top Lawyers by Miami Metro
31
Magazine; and as one of "40 Business Leaders in South Florida
32
Under Age 40" by the South Florida Business Journal, and
33
WHEREAS, Mr. Dotson has received numerous additional awards
34
including the March of Dimes Community Excellence in Real Estate
35
Law Award; the 1999 Community Leader Award by the Wilke D.
36
Ferguson, Jr., Bar Association; the 2001 Outstanding Star of Our
37
Community Award by The Vizcayans; the 2004 Certificate of Special
38
Congressional Recognition by Senator Bill Nelson in honor of his
39
contributions to the State of Florida; and has received
40
commendations and proclamations from the Mayor of Miami-Dade
41
County, the Miami-Dade County Board of County Commissioners, the
42
Mayor of the City of Miami, and the City of Miami Commission, and
43
WHEREAS, Mr. Dotson resides in South Florida with his loving
44
wife, Attorney Gail Ash Dotson, and their two children, Ashley
45
Erin Dotson and Albert Eugene Dotson, III, and continues to
46
contribute greatly to the State of Florida and the South Florida
47
region through his leadership and community service, NOW,

THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

That the Senate recognizes and commends Mr. Al Dotson, Jr.,
53
for his many years of outstanding leadership and exemplary
54
community service in South Florida.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
56
the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Al Dotson, Jr.,
57
as a tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
