Senate Resolution

A resolution recognizing Mr. Don Noe for his contribution

of more than 20 years of meteorological expertise in
4
South Florida.

WHEREAS, Don Noe, born June 30, 1951, in Fond du Lac,
7
Wisconsin, developed an interest in science, cultivated by "Mr.
8
Wizard" on Saturday morning television, and
9
WHEREAS, one day, lightning struck a tall tree in the Noes'
10
back yard and this event served as a lightning rod that directed
11
Don's interest towards meteorology, and
12
WHEREAS, after graduating from high school, Don enrolled in
13
the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he would earn a
14
Bachelor of Science Degree in 1973, and
15
WHEREAS, also in 1973, Don married his high school
16
sweetheart, Betty, and together they have raised two wonderful
17
sons, Matthew and Alan, and
18
WHEREAS, after stints in Green Bay and Portland as Chief
19
Meteorologist, Don accepted a position with WPLG channel 10 in
20
Miami in 1979, just 2 months before his first hurricane
21
experience when Hurricane David, a powerful category 5 storm,
22
swept near the Florida coast, and
23
WHEREAS, on August 24, 1992, Don's life, like the lives of
24
many South Floridians, was drastically changed as Hurricane
25
Andrew ravaged South Dade with its 200-mph winds, and
26
WHEREAS, Don spent the next few weeks reporting on the storm
27
that changed forever how he felt about and viewed many things in
28
this world, and

WHEREAS, after the devastation of Andrew, Don recognized the
30
importance of his position as Chief Meteorologist at WPLG and the
31
responsibility it carried to the community, realizing how much
32
people actually depended on him and others to remain in front of
33
the camera throughout the nights of the storm, advising them on
34
the safest course of action and providing communication, comfort,
35
and reassurance, and
36
WHEREAS, on November 28th, 2007, Don signed off for the last
37
time, saying farewell to all who have trusted and grown with him
38
in South Florida, NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

That the Florida Senate does hereby recognize WPLG Channel
43
10 Chief Meteorologist Don Noe for his years of dedicated service
44
to South Florida.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
46
the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Don Noe as a
47
tangible token of the sentiments of the Florida Senate.
