Senate Resolution

A resolution recognizing John B. Rogers, Jr., on the
3
occasion of his retirement as Superintendent of the Santa
4
Rosa County School District.

WHEREAS, John B. Rogers, Jr. will retire this year as
7
Superintendent of the Santa Rosa County School District after a
8
distinguished and progressive career spanning 33 years as a
9
teacher, coach, principal, district administrator, and school
10
superintendent, and
11
WHEREAS, during his 8-year tenure as superintendent from
12
2000 to 2008, Santa Rosa schools continued a decades-long
13
tradition of excellence and achieved historic and unsurpassed
14
academic accomplishments, and
15
WHEREAS, during Superintendent Rogers' terms in office,
16
Santa Rosa students became the highest performing readers in
17
Florida history, breaking every record for progress and
18
proficiency, and
19
WHEREAS, under Mr. Rogers' leadership, the Santa Rosa County
20
School District has been an "A" district every year and has
21
consistently ranked among the top four districts in the state,
22
with 85 percent of Santa Rosa's graded schools earning an "A" and
23
the remaining 15 percent scoring a "B" or a "C" in 2007, the best
24
overall quality ratings in the school district's history, and
25
WHEREAS, while Superintendent of Schools, Mr. Rogers has
26
developed innovative and progressive academic programs including
27
an on-line high school, virtual learning academies for on-line
28
professional development, and high school academies for
29
carpentry, automotives, and information technology, and
30
WHEREAS, Mr. Rogers' financial stewardship of the public's
31
resources has been exemplary as well, earning the confidence and
32
support of the public for continuing by referendum a half-cent
33
sales tax for schools, building three new schools and more than
34
100 new classrooms and ancillary facilities, and dramatically
35
reducing dependence on portable buildings, and
36
WHEREAS, Superintendent Rogers' superlative management
37
resulted in the Harvard University School of Education's
38
designation of the Santa Rosa schools as an exemplary national
39
case study in learning successes and administrative leadership,
40
NOW, THEREFORE,

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

That the Senate extends heartfelt appreciation to John B.
45
Rogers, Jr., for a lifetime of service to the people of Santa
46
Rosa County and to their children and commends him for his
47
professional achievements in public education.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with
49
the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to John B. Rogers,
50
Jr., as a tangible token of the esteem of the Florida Senate.
