Senate Resolution

A resolution recognizing and honoring Faye W. Blanton,

3

Secretary of the Florida Senate, on the occasion of her

4

retirement following an outstanding career in government

5

service to the State of Florida.

     WHEREAS, Faye Blanton was elected Secretary of the Florida

8

Senate in November 1996, the first woman to be elected to this

9

office for a full 2-year term, and she has since been unanimously

10

reelected to that office, and

11

     WHEREAS, Secretary Blanton's great gifts and talents as an

12

administrator and manager, and her deep knowledge and experience

13

with the Florida legislative process since 1970, have kept the

14

Senate running smoothly as the legislative workload has grown and

15

technological complexity in the legislative process and product

16

has increased, and

17

     WHEREAS, Secretary Blanton served as Assistant to the

18

Secretary of the Senate for 10 years beginning in 1974, and as

19

Assistant Secretary from 1984 until her election as Secretary in

20

1996, and

21

     WHEREAS, Secretary Blanton played an important role on the

22

staff of the 1977-1978 Florida Constitution Revision Commission,

23

and was Secretary and Parliamentarian of the 1997-1998 Florida

24

Constitution Revision Commission, and

25

     WHEREAS, Secretary Blanton has also served as a member of

26

the Board of Directors of the Legislative Research Center and

27

Museum, has lectured on the legislative process, and has managed

28

many mock legislative sessions for civic, student, international,

29

and private groups, and

30

     WHEREAS, among her additional public service activities, she

31

has been an adviser and counselor for Girls State, Boys State,

32

the YMCA Youth Legislature, and the Silver-Haired Legislature,

33

introducing many thousands of Florida residents to the

34

legislative process, and

35

     WHEREAS, throughout the years of her leadership in the

36

administration of the Senate's work process, Faye Blanton has

37

consistently earned the admiration and love of her colleagues and

38

employees through her personal vibrancy, professionalism,

39

kindness, compassion, and graciousness, and

40

     WHEREAS, among Secretary Blanton's proudest accomplishments

41

have been balancing a long and rewarding career with the Florida

42

Senate along with a fulfilling family life; helping Senators and

43

Senate staff on a daily basis with procedural and other issues

44

regarding the welfare of the Senate; working with the many Senate

45

professional staff who have traditionally been known as "the

46

Senate Family"; and creating the Senate Kids Web Page and the

47

Senate Kids Handbook, and

48

     WHEREAS, Secretary Blanton has earned the high respect and

49

gratitude of the members of the Florida Senate throughout her 38-

50

year career, and she will be missed more than words can say by

51

the entire Senate Family, NOW, THEREFORE,

52

Be It Resolved by the Senate of the State of Florida:

54

     That the Florida Senate recognizes and commends Secretary

56

Faye Blanton for her long and distinguished service to the

57

Florida Senate and to the people of Florida, and offers her its

58

congratulations and best wishes for a long and enjoyable

59

retirement with her husband, Edwin F. Blanton, and their children

60

and grandchildren.

     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution, with

62

the Seal of the Senate affixed, be presented to Faye W. Blanton

63

as a tangible token of the admiration and gratitude of the

64

Florida Senate.
