A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to student voter education; requiring
3district school boards and county supervisors of
4elections to cooperate to provide a program of voter
5education for high school seniors; providing guidelines
6for the content of the educational program; requiring
7that the program of voter education be conducted during
8school hours; providing an effective date.

10Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

12     Section 1.  (1)  Each district school board and county
13supervisor of elections shall cooperate to provide voter
14education to high school students who are in grade 12. The
15voter education shall be in the form of a presentation and is
16voluntary for public high schools and nonpublic high schools.
17Each supervisor of elections shall conduct the presentation
18for the public high schools and, upon request, for the
19nonpublic high schools.
20     (2)  The voter education must include information
21concerning:
22     (a)  How to register to vote and preregister.
23     (b)  The operation of voting machines.
24     (c)  How, when, and where to vote.
25     (d)  The importance of voting.
26     (3)  The voter-education program must provide students
27with the opportunity, sufficient information, and sufficient
28time to complete and hand in to the supervisor of elections
29applications for voter registration.
30     (4)  The voter-education program shall be conducted
31during school hours each term of the school year in order to
32reach a maximum number of students in the most effective and
33efficient manner.
34     (5)  A student may not be excluded from the voter-
35education program due to an irregular class schedule, and
36students enrolled in a magnet school must be provided voter
37education.
38     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
