An act relating to workforce innovation; amending s.

445.007, F.S.; authorizing designation of a regional

4

workforce board as a one-stop operator and direct provider

5

of certain services, subject to approval by the Governor

6

and the regional designated chief elected official;

providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Subsection (5) of section 445.007, Florida

12

Statutes, is amended, present subsections (6) through (8) of that

13

section are redesignated as subsections (7) through (9),

14

respectively, and a new subsection (6) is added to that section,

15

to read:

     445.007  Regional workforce boards.--

17

     (5)  Workforce Florida, Inc., shall implement a training

18

program for the regional workforce boards to familiarize board

19

members with the state's workforce development goals and

20

strategies.

21

     (6) The regional workforce board shall designate all local

22

service providers and may shall not transfer this authority to a

23

third party. In order to exercise independent oversight, The

24

regional workforce board may shall not be designated as a one-

25

stop operator and direct provider of intake, assessment,

26

eligibility determinations, or other direct provider services

27

except training services. Such designation is subject to the

28

approval, by agreement, of the Governor and the designated chief

29

elected official of the region as specified in 29 U.S.C. s.

30

2832(f)(2).

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
