A bill to be entitled
2An act relating to the Department of State; amending s.
315.09, F.S.; eliminating the fee charged by the department
4for searching of papers or records; amending s. 267.031,
5F.S.; eliminating the requirement for the establishment of
6regional offices for the purpose of assisting the
7department in the delivery of historic preservation
8services; amending s. 267.173, F.S.; eliminating reference
9to contracting with the University of West Florida as a
10regional office serving a specified area, to conform;
11repealing s. 267.174, F.S., relating to the Discovery of
12Florida Quincentennial Commemoration Commission; providing
13an effective date.

15Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
16
17     Section 1.  Subsection (1) of section 15.09, Florida
18Statutes, is amended to read:
19     15.09  Fees.--
20     (1)  The fees, except as provided by law, to be collected
21by the Department of State, are:
22     (a)  For searching of papers or records, $3.50, except that
23there shall be no charge for telephone requests for general
24corporate information, including the corporation's status, names
25of officers and directors, address of principal place of
26business, and name and address of resident agent.
27     (a)(b)  For providing a certificate with seal, $8.75;
28however, no fee shall be charged for providing a certificate
29with seal to any officer appointed to an office requiring Senate
30confirmation.
31     (b)(c)  For furnishing statistical information and for
32copying any document not mentioned, $1 per page or fraction
33thereof.
34     Section 2.  Paragraph (m) of subsection (5) of section
35267.031, Florida Statutes, is amended, and paragraphs (n)
36through (p) of that subsection are redesignated as paragraphs
37(m) through (o), respectively, to read:
38     267.031  Division of Historical Resources; powers and
39duties.--
40     (5)  It is the responsibility of the division to:
41     (m)  Establish regional offices for the purpose of
42assisting the division in the delivery of historic preservation
43services to the counties and municipalities of the state and to
44the citizens of the State of Florida. Historic preservation
45regional offices shall be established in at least three areas of
46the state which the division deems appropriate. For each
47regional office established, the division shall establish a
48citizen advisory board to provide assistance, advice, and
49recommendations to the regional office. The members of each
50citizen advisory board shall be appointed by the Secretary of
51State.
52     Section 3.  Subsection (5) of section 267.173, Florida
53Statutes, is amended, and subsections (6) through (8) of that
54section are renumbered as subsections (5) through (7),
55respectively, to read:
56     267.173  Historic preservation in West Florida; goals;
57contracts for historic preservation; powers and duties.--
58     (5)  The Division of Historical Resources in the Department
59of State may contract with the University of West Florida to
60serve as the regional office for the West Florida region of the
61state from the Apalachicola River to the western boundaries of
62the state. In lieu of the establishment of a citizen advisory
63board as required by s. 267.031(5)(m), the University of West
64Florida may use an existing direct-support organization of the
65university provided that the membership of the direct-support
66organization is representative of the area of the state to be
67served and provides the needed expertise in the area of historic
68preservation.
69     Section 4.  Section 267.174, Florida Statutes, is repealed.
70     Section 5.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
