An act relating to building standards for educational

facilities; creating s. 1013.375, F.S.; requiring that

4

educational facilities of a school district, a community

5

college, a university, or the Florida School for the Deaf

6

and the Blind meet specified minimum standards for energy

7

efficiency and sustainability; providing that the

8

standards apply to a facility that is newly constructed or

9

that undergoes renovation costing more than a specified

10

amount; providing an exception for projects approved

11

before a specified date; providing an effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

     Section 1.  Section 1013.375, Florida Statutes, is created

16

to read:

     1013.375 New or renovated educational facilities; standards

18

for energy efficiency and sustainability.--Each new educational

19

facility, and each renovation of an educational facility which

20

costs more than $100,000, must achieve, at minimum, a silver-

21

level certification in the rating system used by the United

22

States Green Building Council's Leadership in Energy and

23

Environmental Design or a two-globe rating in the Green Globe

24

rating system used by the Green Building Initiative. This section

25

does not apply to a facility if the board approves the design for

26

the construction or renovation before July 1, 2009.

     Section 2.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
