| 5 | Section 7. Subsection (4) is added to section 373.086, |
| 6 | Florida Statutes, to read: |
| 7 | 373.086 Providing for district works.-- |
| 8 | (4) When the governing board of a water management |
| 9 | district declares a water shortage emergency, the district shall |
| 10 | protect its resources through augmentation of water supplies and |
| 11 | implementation of its water shortage rules. Water supply |
| 12 | augmentation for Lake Okeechobee shall take place when: |
| 13 | (a) A water shortage emergency has been declared. |
| 14 | (b) Water restrictions for the Lake Okeechobee Service |
| 15 | Area have been implemented. |
| 16 | (c) The lake stage falls below 11 feet. |
| 17 | (d) Concentrations of phosphorus in augmentation water are |
| 18 | lower than phosphorus concentrations in in-lake average |
| 19 | phosphorus concentrations. |
| 20 |
|
| 21 | The augmentation shall cease when water restrictions are lifted. |
| 22 | These measures will help prevent exceedance of the state's |
| 23 | minimum flows and levels rule for selected water bodies as well |
| 24 | as assure recovery of littoral zone habitat and protect |
| 25 | navigation and water supply. |
