An act relating to the conveyance of bodies into or out of

the state; amending s. 406.61, F.S.; authorizing an
4
accredited or certified museum to convey plastinated
5
bodies into or out of the state for exhibition and
6
educational purposes; requiring that the museum provide
7
prior notification to the anatomical board; providing an
8
effective date.

Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:

Section 1. Section 406.61, Florida Statutes, is amended to
13
read:

406.61 Selling, buying, or conveying bodies outside state
15
prohibited; exceptions, penalty.--Any person who shall sell or
16
buy any body or parts of bodies as described in this chapter or
17
any person except a recognized Florida medical or dental school
18
who shall transmit or convey or cause to be transmitted or
19
conveyed such body or parts of bodies to any place outside this
20
state is guilty of a misdemeanor of the first degree, punishable
22
chapter shall be construed as prohibiting the anatomical board
23
from transporting human specimens outside the state for
24
educational or scientific purposes or as prohibiting the
25
transport of bodies, parts of bodies, or tissue specimens in
26
furtherance of lawful examination, investigation, or autopsy
27
conducted pursuant to s. 406.11. Any person, institution, or
28
organization that conveys bodies or parts of bodies into or out
29
of the state for medical education or research purposes shall
30
notify the anatomical board of such intent and receive approval
31
from the board. However, a museum that is accredited by the
32
American Association of Museums or certified by the Association
33
of Science-Technology Centers may convey plastinated bodies into
34
or out of the state for exhibition and educational purposes
35
without the consent of the board if the museum notifies the board
36
regarding the duration and location of the exhibition at least 30
37
days before the intended conveyance.

Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2008.
