5 | WHEREAS, President Ronald Wilson Reagan, a man of humble |
6 | background, worked throughout his life serving freedom and |
7 | advancing the public good, having been employed as an |
8 | entertainer, union leader, and corporate spokesman and elected |
9 | Governor of California and President of the United States, and |
10 | WHEREAS, Ronald Reagan served with honor and distinction |
11 | for two terms as the 40th President of the United States of |
12 | America and was elected to his second term by 3/5ths of the |
13 | electorate and by 49 of the 50 states, a record unsurpassed in |
14 | the history of American presidential elections, and |
15 | WHEREAS, in 1981, when Ronald Reagan was inaugurated |
16 | President, he inherited a disillusioned nation that was shackled |
17 | by rampant inflation and high unemployment, and |
18 | WHEREAS, during his presidency, Ronald Reagan worked in a |
19 | bipartisan manner to enact his bold agenda of restoring |
20 | accountability and common sense to the Federal Government, which |
21 | led to unprecedented economic expansion and opportunity for |
22 | millions of Americans, and |
23 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to an active social |
24 | policy agenda for the nation's children helped to lower crime |
25 | and reduce drug use in our neighborhoods, and |
26 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's commitment to our Armed Forces |
27 | contributed to the restoration of pride in America, her values, |
28 | and those cherished by the free world and prepared America's |
29 | Armed Forces to meet the challenges of the 21st Century, and |
30 | WHEREAS, President Reagan's vision of "peace through |
31 | strength" led to the end of the Cold War and the ultimate demise |
32 | of the Soviet Union, guaranteeing basic human rights for |
33 | millions of people, and |
34 | WHEREAS, February 6, 2008, will be the 96th anniversary of |
35 | Ronald Reagan's birth and the fourth anniversary since his |
36 | passing, NOW, THEREFORE, |

42 | deliberations to honor the memory and accomplishments of |
43 | President Ronald Wilson Reagan and to recognize February 6, |
