6 | WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph, despite being born with only |
7 | one leg and without the use of a prosthesis, earned 13 varsity |
8 | letters in football, basketball, and track at Madison High |
9 | School in Madison, Florida, where he was also captain of the |
10 | football team and an honor student, and |
11 | WHEREAS, following his graduation from high school, Elder |
12 | Carl Joseph continued his education at the University of |
13 | Pittsburgh, where he played middle linebacker on the school's |
14 | football team, and |
15 | WHEREAS, following a desire to be closer to his home, Elder |
16 | Carl Joseph transferred to Bethune-Cookman College, where he |
17 | would accept a scholarship and play football for four years, and |
18 | WHEREAS, as an athlete, Elder Carl Joseph earned numerous |
19 | awards, including awards for most versatile and spirited athlete |
20 | and most courageous team player, and was named the Most |
21 | Courageous Athlete of 1981 by the Philadelphia Sports Writers |
22 | Association, and |
23 | WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph earned his degree in physical |
24 | education from Bethune-Cookman College in 1987, and |
25 | WHEREAS, following his college graduation, Elder Carl |
26 | Joseph began teaching children with special needs in the Madison |
27 | County school system, and |
28 | WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph, also a gifted vocalist, lent |
29 | his talents to various choirs before joining his friend Eric |
30 | Farmer in founding an inspirational gospel group, the Spiritual |
31 | Tru-Tones, and soon thereafter was ordained as a minister, a |
32 | calling of several members of the Tru-Tones, and |
33 | WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph is married to Minister Michelle |
34 | Joseph, NOW, THEREFORE, |

36 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |

39 | That Elder Carl Joseph is recognized for his devoted |
40 | ministry, his various outstanding accomplishments, and the |
41 | valuable contribution he continues to make to his students and |
42 | to the residents of Florida as an inspiring example of lifelong |
43 | strength and determination. |
44 | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be |
45 | presented to Elder Carl Joseph as a tangible token of the |
46 | sentiments expressed herein. |
