House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing Elder Carl Joseph for his devoted
3ministry, outstanding accomplishments, and valuable
4contributions to the residents of Florida.

6     WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph, despite being born with only
7one leg and without the use of a prosthesis, earned 13 varsity
8letters in football, basketball, and track at Madison High
9School in Madison, Florida, where he was also captain of the
10football team and an honor student, and
11     WHEREAS, following his graduation from high school, Elder
12Carl Joseph continued his education at the University of
13Pittsburgh, where he played middle linebacker on the school's
14football team, and
15     WHEREAS, following a desire to be closer to his home, Elder
16Carl Joseph transferred to Bethune-Cookman College, where he
17would accept a scholarship and play football for four years, and
18     WHEREAS, as an athlete, Elder Carl Joseph earned numerous
19awards, including awards for most versatile and spirited athlete
20and most courageous team player, and was named the Most
21Courageous Athlete of 1981 by the Philadelphia Sports Writers
22Association, and
23     WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph earned his degree in physical
24education from Bethune-Cookman College in 1987, and
25     WHEREAS, following his college graduation, Elder Carl
26Joseph began teaching children with special needs in the Madison
27County school system, and
28     WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph, also a gifted vocalist, lent
29his talents to various choirs before joining his friend Eric
30Farmer in founding an inspirational gospel group, the Spiritual
31Tru-Tones, and soon thereafter was ordained as a minister, a
32calling of several members of the Tru-Tones, and
33     WHEREAS, Elder Carl Joseph is married to Minister Michelle
34Joseph, NOW, THEREFORE,

36Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
37Florida:

39     That Elder Carl Joseph is recognized for his devoted
40ministry, his various outstanding accomplishments, and the
41valuable contribution he continues to make to his students and
42to the residents of Florida as an inspiring example of lifelong
43strength and determination.
44     BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
45presented to Elder Carl Joseph as a tangible token of the
46sentiments expressed herein.
