| 4 | contributions to her community and its children. |

| 6 | WHEREAS, Adelle Vaughn-Jemison, an Ocala native and well- |
| 7 | known educator and activist in Pinellas County, died on November |
| 8 | 19, 2007, at 77 years of age, and |
| 9 | WHEREAS, for nearly 40 years, Adelle Vaughn-Jemison devoted |
| 10 | her life to equality, children, and education, serving as a |
| 11 | child welfare worker for the City of St. Petersburg, a social |
| 12 | worker for the Pinellas County School System, and an assistant |
| 13 | superintendent for the school system's Office of Equal |
| 14 | Opportunity, and |
| 15 | WHEREAS, in 1968, after a St. Petersburg sanitation |
| 16 | workers' strike, Adelle Vaughn-Jemison helped found the St. |
| 17 | Petersburg Area Chamber of Commerce's Community Alliance, an |
| 18 | organization charged with bridging the gap between the city's |
| 19 | white and black residents, and |
| 20 | WHEREAS, while tackling inequality in the school system, |
| 21 | Adelle Vaughn-Jemison became involved in promoting public safety |
| 22 | and, in 1979, joined the St. Petersburg Police Department's |
| 23 | Community Police Council where she remained an active member |
| 24 | until her death, and |
| 25 | WHEREAS, in 2002, Adelle Vaughn-Jemison helped form the |
| 26 | Concerned Organizations for Quality Education for Black |
| 27 | Students, a St. Petersburg group which continues to work with |
| 28 | the Pinellas County School District to narrow the academic |
| 29 | achievement gap between the district's white and black students, |
| 30 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 35 | That the life of Adelle Vaughn-Jemison is hereby honored |
| 36 | and that her devoted service and valuable contributions to her |
| 37 | community and its children are recognized. |
