1	House Resolution
2	A resolution recognizing and commending the Pharmaceutical
3	Research and Manufacturers of America on the 20th
4	anniversary of its Discoverers Award program.

6	WHEREAS, scientists in cutting-edge laboratories of
7	America's pharmaceutical research companies create most of the
8	world's new medicines, which benefit tens of millions of
9	patients, and
10	WHEREAS, because of their efforts, more than 2,500
11	medicines are in development today, giving patients greater
12	therapeutic options, and
13	WHEREAS, these potential new medicines include
14	pharmaceuticals for cancer, Alzheimer's disease, infectious
15	disease, heart disease, arthritis, stroke, diabetes, obesity,
16	hypertension, HIV/AIDS, and many other life-threatening and
17	debilitating diseases and medical conditions, and
18	WHEREAS, the men and women who discover and create these
19	medicines deserve recognition for their life-saving and life-
20	enhancing accomplishments, and
21	WHEREAS, to accomplish this, the Pharmaceutical Research
22	and Manufacturers of America established the Discoverers Award
23	program, which annually honors those scientists who tirelessly
24	research and develop the new pharmaceuticals that have benefited
25	patients worldwide, and
26	WHEREAS, throughout its 20-year history, the Discoverers
27	Award has been presented to the creators of vital new medicines
28	for life-threatening infections, chronic myeloid leukemia,
29	rheumatoid arthritis, and AIDS and for preventing rejections of
30	life-saving transplants and lowering cholesterol, NOW,
31	THEREFORE,

33	Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34	Florida:

36	That the Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of
37	America is recognized and commended on the 20th anniversary of
38	its Discoverers Award program, which honors scientists whose
39	tireless research and development of new pharmaceuticals have
40	greatly benefited patients all over the world.
41	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be
42	presented to Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of
43	America as a tangible token of the sentiments expressed herein.
