House Resolution
2A resolution acknowledging the invaluable contributions
3Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., has made to the people
4of Florida, and recognizing April 13-15, 2008, as "The
514th Annual Delta Days at the Florida Capitol."

7     WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a public
8service organization that was founded on January 13, 1913, by 22
9outstanding women at Howard University in Washington, D.C., and
10     WHEREAS, nearly 6 weeks after its founding, the first
11public act of the sorority was its participation in the Women's
12Suffrage Movement demanding rights for women, particularly the
13right to vote, and
14     WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., is a sisterhood
15of college-educated women committed to implementing the
16sorority's mission through its Five Point Program Thrust:
17Economic Development, Educational Development, Physical and
18Mental Health, Political Awareness, and International Awareness
19and Involvement, and
20     WHEREAS, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., recently
21celebrated 95 years of exemplary service and support to local
22communities, leading dialogue on public policy issues,
23supporting quality education, and producing new projects to
24stimulate current and future economic growth, and
25     WHEREAS, with more than 200,000 college-educated women and
26over 950 chapters worldwide, 47 of which are located in Florida
27and the Bahamas, members of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority are
28clearly focused and visible as corporate and civic leaders,
29productive public officials, acclaimed academicians, and
30activists in their own right, and
31     WHEREAS, for the past 13 years, the sorority's Florida
32chapters have conducted "Delta Days at the Florida Capitol" to
33provide information to state legislators and government
34executives which is vital to developing public policy; to host a
35reception for state legislators and government executives; and
36to monitor the progress of pending legislation related to
37significant public policy issues, and
38     WHEREAS, on April 13-15, 2008, the members of the 47
39chapters of the sorority that now serve Florida and the Bahamas
40will converge on Tallahassee to conduct The 14th Annual Delta
41Days at the Florida Capitol, with the theme "Remember the 22 -
42Social Action is What We Do!", and
43     WHEREAS, Senators Larcenia J. Bullard and Arthenia Joyner,
44and Representatives Dorothy Bendross-Mindingall, Joyce Cusack,
45and Audrey Gibson are esteemed members of Delta Sigma Theta
46Sorority, Inc., NOW, THEREFORE,

48Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
49Florida:

51     That the Florida House of Representatives commends Delta
52Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., for its contributions to the people
53of Florida, and recognizes April 13-15, 2008, as "The 14th
54Annual Delta Days at the Florida Capitol."
