House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the 60th anniversary of the
3independence of the State of Israel.

5     WHEREAS, on May 14, 1948, the State of Israel was
6established as a sovereign and independent country, and
7     WHEREAS, Israel has provided Jews from all over the world
8with an opportunity to reestablish their ancient homeland and
9has become home to many religious sites that are sacred to
10Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and
11     WHEREAS, the people of Israel have established a
12pluralistic democracy that incorporates the freedoms cherished
13by the people of the United States, including the freedom of
14speech, the freedom of religion, the freedom of association, and
15the freedom of the press, and
16     WHEREAS, Israel continues to serve as a shining model of
17democratic values by holding free and fair elections, promoting
18the free exchange of ideas, and maintaining a democratic
19government that is fully representative of its citizens, and
20     WHEREAS, the government of Israel has successfully worked
21with the neighboring governments of Egypt and Jordan to
22establish peaceful bilateral relations and, despite conflicts
23with other neighboring countries, continues to seek peace in the
24Middle East, and
25     WHEREAS, Israel has made significant global contributions
26in the fields of science, medicine, and technology, and
27     WHEREAS, the United States and Israel enjoy a strategic
28partnership based on shared democratic values, friendship, and
29respect, NOW, THEREFORE,

31Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
32Florida:

34     That the House of Representatives recognizes the numerous
35achievements of the people and the State of Israel and extends
36its best wishes to the people of Israel as they celebrate the
3760th anniversary of the independence of their country.
