House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing the week of March 23-29, 2008, as
3"Juvenile Justice Week" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the State of Florida and the Department of
6Juvenile Justice recognize the importance of preventing juvenile
7delinquency, reducing recidivism of juveniles currently in the
8juvenile justice system, and contributing thereby to the safety
9of Florida's citizens and communities, and
10     WHEREAS, the Department of Juvenile Justice provides an
11array of prevention, education, health, probation, community
12intervention and diversion, detention, and residential services
13that have resulted in a reduction in juvenile crime, and
14     WHEREAS, youth, families, law enforcement, courts, program
15providers, local boards and councils, schools, volunteers, and
16other partners work tirelessly to improve the lives of our young
17people, and
18     WHEREAS, juvenile justice programs can and have helped at-
19risk children and their families stay crime-free, leading to
20fewer crimes and more saved lives, and
21     WHEREAS, the mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice
22is to increase public safety by reducing juvenile delinquency
23through effective prevention, intervention, and treatment
24services that strengthen families and turn around the lives of
25troubled juveniles and, therefore, the department is part of the
26community and part of the solution in reducing juvenile crime,
27NOW, THEREFORE,

29Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
30Florida:

32     That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes the
33week of March 23-29, 2008, as "Juvenile Justice Week" in Florida
34and calls upon families, schools, juvenile justice providers,
35faith-based and civic organizations, businesses, and communities
36to become partners in preventing juvenile crime.
