| 2 | A resolution recognizing the week of March 23-29, 2008, as |
| 3 | "Juvenile Justice Week" in Florida. |

| 5 | WHEREAS, the State of Florida and the Department of |
| 6 | Juvenile Justice recognize the importance of preventing juvenile |
| 7 | delinquency, reducing recidivism of juveniles currently in the |
| 8 | juvenile justice system, and contributing thereby to the safety |
| 9 | of Florida's citizens and communities, and |
| 10 | WHEREAS, the Department of Juvenile Justice provides an |
| 11 | array of prevention, education, health, probation, community |
| 12 | intervention and diversion, detention, and residential services |
| 13 | that have resulted in a reduction in juvenile crime, and |
| 14 | WHEREAS, youth, families, law enforcement, courts, program |
| 15 | providers, local boards and councils, schools, volunteers, and |
| 16 | other partners work tirelessly to improve the lives of our young |
| 17 | people, and |
| 18 | WHEREAS, juvenile justice programs can and have helped at- |
| 19 | risk children and their families stay crime-free, leading to |
| 20 | fewer crimes and more saved lives, and |
| 21 | WHEREAS, the mission of the Department of Juvenile Justice |
| 22 | is to increase public safety by reducing juvenile delinquency |
| 23 | through effective prevention, intervention, and treatment |
| 24 | services that strengthen families and turn around the lives of |
| 25 | troubled juveniles and, therefore, the department is part of the |
| 26 | community and part of the solution in reducing juvenile crime, |
| 27 | NOW, THEREFORE, |

| 29 | Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of |
| 30 | Florida: |
| 31 |

| 32 | That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes the |
| 33 | week of March 23-29, 2008, as "Juvenile Justice Week" in Florida |
| 34 | and calls upon families, schools, juvenile justice providers, |
| 35 | faith-based and civic organizations, businesses, and communities |
| 36 | to become partners in preventing juvenile crime. |
