2A resolution recognizing March 30, 2008, through April 5,
32008, as "Girl Scout Week" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, Friday, March 12, 2008, marked the 96th
6anniversary of the founding of the Girl Scouts of the United
7States of America by Juliette Gordon Low in 1912, and
8     WHEREAS, on March 16, 1950, the Girl Scouts became the
9first national organization for girls to be granted a federal
10charter by Congress, and
11     WHEREAS, throughout its long and distinguished history,
12Girl Scouts - the preeminent organization for girls - has
13inspired millions of girls with the highest ideals of character,
14conduct, patriotism, and service to others so that they may
15become model citizens in their communities, and
16     WHEREAS, some 50 million women have enjoyed the benefits of
17the Girl Scouts program, as an American tradition, for 96 years,
18and
19     WHEREAS, the State of Florida is home to more than 104,000
20participants in the Girl Scouts program, and
21     WHEREAS, Girl Scouting offers leadership and guidance to
22businesses and communities in teaching girls the skills needed
23to take active roles in math, science, and technology careers
24and to fulfill our country's economic needs, and
25     WHEREAS, the Girl Scouts offers girls age 5 through 17 a
26variety of opportunities to develop strong values and life
27skills and provides a wide range of activities to meet girls'
28interests and needs, and
29     WHEREAS, through Girl Scouting, every girl everywhere can
30grow strong, gain self-confidence and skills for success, and
31learn her responsibilities to the world around her, and
32     WHEREAS, through participation in the legislative process,
33Girl Scouts learn how to use their own voices to address issues
34of concern to them and how to go about making changes for the
35betterment of their community, NOW, THEREFORE,

37Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
38Florida:

40     That the Florida House of Representatives recognizes March
4130, 2008, through April 5, 2008, as "Girl Scout Week" in
42Florida.
