House Resolution
2A resolution recognizing April 8-13, 2008, as "General
3Aviation Week" in Florida.

5     WHEREAS, the aviation industry is a cornerstone of
6Florida's economy, with 21 commercial service airports and 107
7general aviation airports that are open to the public and more
8than 600 private airports, and
9     WHEREAS, Florida's airports provide nearly $96 billion
10annually in economic activity, and its aviation industry
11supports over 1 million jobs that generate more than $26 billion
12in annual payroll, and
13     WHEREAS, Florida has the largest flight training industry
14in the United States, and
15     WHEREAS, more than 85 percent of all aircraft operations in
16Florida are flown with general aviation aircraft, and
17     WHEREAS, each year, Florida's general aviation aircraft
18bring 9 million visitors to the state, and its general aviation
19airports house 14,000 aircraft, comprising 6 percent of the
20nation's general aviation fleet and accommodating more than 7
21million takeoffs and landings yearly, ranking Florida second in
22the nation in this area, and
23     WHEREAS, without general aviation airports, Florida's busy
24commercial service airports would be overwhelmed with air
25traffic, making air travel to and around the state nearly
26impossible, and
27     WHEREAS, Florida is the host of the nation's second-largest
28general aviation convention, the Sun 'n Fun Fly-In Convention in
29Lakeland for one week each year, which attracts thousands of
30aircraft and hundreds of thousands of aviation enthusiasts to
31the state, NOW, THEREFORE,

33Be It Resolved by the House of Representatives of the State of
34Florida:

36     That the members of the Florida House of Representatives
37enthusiastically acknowledge and recognize April 8-13, 2008, as
38"General Aviation Week" in Florida.
