Florida Senate - 2009 SB 100 By Senator Wilson 33-00057-09 2009100__ 1 A bill to be entitled 2 An act relating to the Voluntary Prekindergarten 3 Education Program; amending s. 1002.55, F.S.; revising 4 the number of instructional hours that are required 5 for a school-year prekindergarten program delivered by 6 a private kindergarten provider; amending s. 1002.63, 7 F.S.; revising the number of instructional hours that 8 are required for a school-year prekindergarten program 9 delivered by a public school; amending s. 1002.71, 10 F.S.; revising the number of instructional hours that 11 are required in order for a student in a school-year 12 prekindergarten program delivered by a public school 13 or a private prekindergarten provider to be considered 14 a full-time equivalent student in the Voluntary 15 Prekindergarten Education Program; providing an 16 effective date. 17 18 Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida: 19 20 Section 1. Subsection (2) of section 1002.55, Florida 21 Statutes, is amended to read: 22 1002.55 School-year prekindergarten program delivered by 23 private prekindergarten providers.— 24 (2) Each school-year prekindergarten program delivered by a 25 private prekindergarten provider must comprise up to 720at26least 540instructional hours or the same number of 27 instructional hours as is provided to a student in kindergarten 28 and first grade, if the provider provides instruction in 29 kindergarten and first grade. 30 Section 2. Subsection (2) of section 1002.63, Florida 31 Statutes, is amended to read: 32 1002.63 School-year prekindergarten program delivered by 33 public schools.— 34 (2) Each school-year prekindergarten program delivered by a 35 public school must comprise at least the same number of54036 instructional hours as the school provides for a student in 37 kindergarten and first grade. 38 Section 3. Subsection (2) of section 1002.71, Florida 39 Statutes, is amended to read: 40 1002.71 Funding; financial and attendance reporting.— 41 (2) A full-time equivalent student in the Voluntary 42 Prekindergarten Education Program shall be calculated as 43 follows: 44 (a) For a student in a school-year prekindergarten program 45 delivered by a private prekindergarten provider: up to 72054046 instructional hours or the same number of instructional hours as 47 is provided to a student in kindergarten and first grade, if the 48 provider provides instruction in kindergarten and first grade. 49 (b) For a student in a summer prekindergarten program 50 delivered by a public school or private prekindergarten 51 provider: 300 instructional hours. 52 (c) For a student in a school-year prekindergarten program 53 delivered by a public school: the same number of54054 instructional hours as the school provides for a student in 55 kindergarten and first grade. 56 Except as provided in subsection (4), a student may not be 57 reported for funding purposes as more than one full-time 58 equivalent student. 59 Section 4. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
