    1                        A bill to be entitled                      
    2         An act relating to motor vehicle registration fees;
    3         amending s. 320.03, F.S.; revising a fee charged for
    4         the initial and renewal registration of certain
    5         automobiles and trucks and deposited into the
    6         Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund; providing an
    7         effective date.
    8         
    9  Be It Enacted by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
   10         
   11         Section 1. Subsection (9) of section 320.03, Florida
   12  Statutes, is amended to read:
   13         320.03 Registration; duties of tax collectors;
   14  International Registration Plan.—
   15         (9) A nonrefundable fee of $3 $1.50 shall be charged on the
   16  initial and renewal registration of each automobile for private
   17  use, and on the initial and renewal registration of each truck
   18  having a net weight of 5,000 pounds or less. Such fees shall be
   19  deposited in the Transportation Disadvantaged Trust Fund created
   20  in part I of chapter 427 and shall be used as provided therein,
   21  except that priority shall be given to the transportation needs
   22  of those who, because of age or physical and mental disability,
   23  are unable to transport themselves and are dependent upon others
   24  to obtain access to health care, employment, education,
   25  shopping, or other life-sustaining activities.
   26         Section 2. This act shall take effect July 1, 2009.
