1	House Memorial
2	A memorial to the Congress of the United States, urging
3	Congress to extend the freeze on increases in the size or
4	weight of commercial motor vehicles.

6	WHEREAS, the State of Florida is committed to protecting
7	the safety of motorists on its highways and to protecting
8	taxpayers' investment in our highway infrastructure, and
9	WHEREAS, there are proposals to remove the federal freeze
10	on the size or weight of commercial motor vehicles, including
11	triple-trailer trucks, in legislation reauthorizing funding for
12	federal transportation, which will be considered in the United
13	States Congress in 2009, and
14	WHEREAS, federal and state studies have found that
15	increasing the size and weight of commercial motor vehicles may
16	accelerate the deterioration of bridges, and
17	WHEREAS, the Federal Highway Administration has classified
18	1,994 bridges in Florida as structurally deficient or
19	functionally obsolete, NOW, THEREFORE,

21	Be It Resolved by the Legislature of the State of Florida:
22
23	That the Congress of the United States is requested to
24	extend the freeze on increases in the size and weight of
25	commercial motor vehicles on the roads and highways of this
26	country.
27	BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be
28	dispatched to the President of the United States, to the
29	President of the United States Senate, to the Speaker of the
30	United States House of Representatives, and to each member of
31	the Florida delegation to the United States Congress.
